The title sounds a little weird. But it has a nice ring to it. So, I’ll stick with it.
I got my 4 new O.P.I. polishes in the mail on Monday and I finally wiped out my chipped manicure and slathered Mermaid’s Tears on my talons! All these bottles of nail polish..oh, every girl’s porn!
I was nervous about how the shade would turn out and go with my skintone, but honestly, it kinda works on my olive/tanned skin. What do you think?
So, Valentine’s day has passed and as much as I wanted to create an anti-Valentine’s mixtape before Valentine’s, but in fear of it jinxing my Valentine’s celebration, I thought it would be wise not to.
But since it didn’t happen anyways, I figured I could do it AFTER Valentine’s Day.
Love Will Tear You Apart
1. “David” – Nellie McKay
I loved this song on the first episode of Weeds Season 1. I love it even more on my mp3 player.
2. “Na Na Na” – Rachel Goodrich
Break-ups happen for a good reason, and they don’t have to be all angry, sad or mopey.
3. ” I Just Don’t Know What to Do with Myself” – Burt Bacharach
No words to describe this. And that’s a good thing. [Sadly, I am unable to find this version on mp3 or Youtube ]
4. “Twilight” – Elliott Smith
Too late! Taken! If this song doesn’t reflect on your past, I recommend going to Youtube, play the Elliott Smith playlist, light candles and tell me if you shed tears. You can’t have a heart-break mix without good old Elliott Smith, ey?
5. “In a Manner of Speaking” – Nouvelle Vague
As much as I like Tuxedomoon’s version, a feminine twist to this somehow completes it more. Is it just me, but does the masculine version sound more whinier? No offense, Tuxedomoon. =(
6. “Shade and Honey” - Sparklehorse
The opening lines go.. “I could look into you face for a thousand years. Its like a civil war of pain and cheer”.
7. “Indian Summer (Des Moines)” – Canon Blue
I couldn’t really understand the lyrics of the song, but the chorus line “No, you won’t ever reach me” might just sum it all.
8. “Love Will Tear Us Apart” – Broken Social Scene
With the title of the playlist, you really cannot runaway from this song. Although, I do like Broken Social Scene’s version. I find it a lot more complex and it toys with your emotions. I admit, I have cried to this song so many times.
9. “Romeo and Juliet” – The Killers
There can be no tragedy without these legendary star-crossed lovers.
10. “Limit to Your Love” – James Blake
Yes, I love covers. Good ones. As much as I love the original, I’m hooked on this version. Maybe its because it sounds so good when you have playing out loud with a pair of good woofers!
11. “Now I Know” – FEIST
I had to include FEIST in this list. She has sooo many tracks about broken romances and break-ups, but this somehow puts me in a good place. Sad, but still somewhat calm.
12. “A Song For You/Can’t Make You Love Me” – Bon Iver
I posted this before quite recently, but I’m a fan of this version with Donny Hathaway’s A Song For You. The progression works so beautifully and I truly cannot even words to explain how amazing this song is. I really wish there would be a studio-recording of this song!
I sincerely hope everyone enjoys this list. Remember, if you’d like to download, just Right-click, and Save Target/Link As..
